John Samuel York, 73, died, along with his wife, Doris, Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, at his home in Perry.
Johnny was born Sept. 2, 1944, in Perry to McKinley York and Ruby Mae Harrell York.
Johnny honorably served our country in the United States Navy. Mr. York was a Christian and was a member of First Assembly of God of Perry. Johnny worked with Procter & Gamble in shipping/forestry, retiring after 25-plus years, so he could travel with his “Ms. Doris” to the mountains and other places of interest in the United States. He was a member of the local American Legion. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, reading, growing and selling blueberries, and, most of all, hunting in the Western Sloughs.

Mr. York is survived by: his daughter, Mary Ann Walker; grandson, Cody Walker and Erica Knight; his sister, Linda York; a niece, Martha Jean Weldon; and a nephew, Jayme (Crystal) Barlow; as well as a host of great nieces and great nephews.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 5 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home of Perry with nephew Donnie Pittman and Pastor Jeff Stading officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry. In lieu of flowers, a GoFundMe account has been established to assist the family with expenses.
