    Joyce Lee Grantham

    Joyce Lee Grantham, 83, of Callahan, died unexpectedly Sunday evening, Oct. 1, 2017, after bravely battling a lengthy illness.
    Joyce was born in 1934 in Donalsonville, Ga. She and her husband, Alven (formerly of Perry), lived in Hilliard for more than 20 years then resided in Valdosta, Ga., before moving to Callahan to be closer to family.
    Joyce was the division accounting and office manager for Gold Kist, Inc., in both Hilliard and Valdosta.
    She was self-taught and loved playing the ukulele with “The Strummers” group in Valdosta which traveled to nursing homes and other various events throughout southeast Georgia.
    Joyce was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all she met. She touched many lives and will never be forgotten by those who loved her very much.
    Joyce is survived by: her husband of 63 years, Alven; daughters, Sandy (Michael) Carroll of Callahan and Brenda (Steve) Shambach of St. Augustine; grandchildren, Brian (Jeanna) Carroll, Tiffany (Josh) Baker, Jennifer (DJ) Willard and Brett Shambach; brothers, Gene (Hazel) Williams and Billy Williams; sister, Virginia (Johnny) Lee; and six great- grandchildren.
    Visitation was held Thursday, Oct. 5, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Callahan, followed by funeral services at noon. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. at the National Cemetery in Jacksonville.
