Velma Huffmaster Simpson, 82, died Nov. 24, 2017, in Quitman, Ga. Velma was born Dec. 9, 1934, in Quitman, Ga., to Walter Franklin Huffmaster and Ida M. Brannen Huffmaster.
Mrs. Simpson was of the Christian faith and was a member of Perry Church of Christ. She worked as a bookkeeper with Barnett Bank for more than 10 years. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, crocheting and quilting. In her later years she enjoyed taking care of animals of all kinds from dogs to sheep and calves. She was a loving wife and a devoted mother to her children, and was a compassionate caregiver to the ones who went before her.
Velma was preceded in death by: her husband, Harold Simpson; her parents, Walter Franklin andIdaM.Huffmaster;her brothers, Julian Huffmaster, Jerry Huffmaster, Larry Huffmaster, Mack Huffmaster, Donald Huffmaster and Roland Huffmaster; and grandson, Jeremy Bruce.
Mrs. Simpson is survived by: her children, Keith (Alisha) Simpson, Fran (Kenny) Hopper and Joni (Pat) Bruce; her brother, Fred Huffmaster; her sister, Dorotha Lee Crosby; nine grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 27, at 2 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home of Perry with Brother Theo Elam and Brother Joe Wynn officiating. Interment services followed immediately afterward in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
