Mack J. Ruff, 88, died Dec. 7, 2017 in Dowling Park. Mack was born Nov. 7, 1929 in Shamrock to Paul Taylor Ruff and Petesie Rhea Smith Ruff.
Mack honorably served our country in the United States Navy, following WWII. He was of the Methodist faith and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Perry, where he served on the Board of Trustees as chairman. He was also a part of UMCOR affiliated with the church, which helps the needy after disasters, or those who need assistance due to disabilities. After his service in the Navy, Mack worked with Triangle Construction, which built the Proctor & Gamble Mill here in Perry. Before construction had been completed, Mack was offered a position with Proctor & Gamble. He became the powerhouse operator, and retired after 40 years with them. Mack was a devout Florida Gator Fan, a member of the Taylor County Gator Club, and was a founding member of Camp Misery Hunt club where he served as its president for many years.
Mack was preceded in death by: his loving wife, Thelma Ruff; and his parents, Paul Taylor and Petesie Rhea Ruff.
He is survived by: his children, Mack Ruff, Jr. (Linda), Sherilyn Mangum (Mack), and Larayne Wilson (Alan); siblings, Paul Michael Ruff, Mary Louise Ellis, and Virginia Ann Winchester; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Perry with Rev. Robert Wood and Rev. James Taylor officiating. Interment services will follow immediately afterwards in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9 at First United Methodist Church of Perry. All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Madison.
