Olin B. “Barney” Cobb, 87, died Dec. 19, 2017, in Gainesville. Barney was born March 26, 1930, in Baker to John Abraham Cobb and Louise “Lou” Kennedy Cobb.
Barney honorably served our country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was of the Christian faith and was an active member of St. James Episcopal Church, where he sang in the choir. Barney worked as a Design Engineer with Triangle, Watkins, and then Frucon, retiring after 30 plus years. His passion was family life, including gardening, horses, bluegrass music, and enjoyed playing the mandolin and guitar. One of his proudest accomplishments was designing the Veterans Memorial Park here in Perry, and helping raise money to see it built.
Barney was preceded in death by: his wife, Lois Cobb; and his parents, John Abraham Cobb and Louise Kennedy Cobb.
Barney is survived by: his children, Athena L. Ledden and Toby R. Cobb (Heather); his granddaughter, Natalie N. Ledden (James C. McGuire); his sister, Rose Barnhill; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 23, at 11 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home of Perry with Fr. Aquilla Hanson officiating. Interment services will follow immediately afterwards in Pineview Memorial Cemetery. There will be a time of fellowship held after the service at St. James Episcopal Church. All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
