Scam alert: residents beware
Posted on December 27, 2017
Scammers are taking aim at area residents and local law enforcement warns people to “be aware” and remember the following tips:
- Don’t believe your caller ID. Technology makes it easy for scammers to fake caller ID information.
- Don’t pay upfront for a promise. Someone might ask you to pay in advance. Consider how you pay. Credit cards have significant fraud protection built in, but some payment methods do not.
- Be skeptical about free trial offers.
- Don’t deposit a check and wire money back.
- If it is too good to be true, don’t believe it.
If you suspect you are the victim of a scam, please contact the police department or sheriff’s office.
