2017 top stories: winds of change sweep business community

The local business community experienced significant changes in 2017, as several of Taylor County’s largest employers – and its largest landowner – made headlines for ownership changes. Several long-time employers closed their doors, while several more celebrated grand openings, two new residential developments moved
closer to breaking ground and the county’s largest employer announced a huge series of capital improvements.

In September, Georgia-Pacific (GP) announced it is implementing approximately $239 million in capital improvement projects at the local Foley Cellulose mill over the next five years — part of an initiative to make the local GP plant a “Factory of the Future.”
