John Demps Jr.

John Demps Jr, 79, of Perry, died Feb. 9, 2018, at Doctors’ Memorial Hospital. John was born Feb. 8, 1939 in Perry to John Demps and Sarah (Bevel) Demps.

John was a member of the Jerkins High School graduating class of 1958. He eventually settled in Detroit, Mich., where he worked in the steel mill industry as a machinist. He retired home to Florida in the 1990s.

John was preceded in death by: an older brother, J.C.; his father, John Demps Sr.; his mother, Sarah (Bevel) Demps; and his son, Robert Anthony Demps.

He is survived by: his sons, James and William; eleven brothers, Thomas (Lueva), Jimmie, Charles, Chester (Carolyn), Nute (Terralyn), Harry (Rose Mary), Alexander (Minnie), Joseph, Willie (Janet), George (Alfreda) and Herman; six grandchildren, James Demps Jr., Lametris McBride, DeAndre Demps, Robert Demps Jr., Darrius Demps and Jeremy Demps; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 16, at 2 p.m. At Mount Olive M.B. Church in Perry. Visitation will be held two hours prior, from 12-2 p.m., at Mount Olive M.B. Church. Internment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Perry.
