Harold W. Mixon, 97, died February 15, 2018, in Tallahassee. Harold was born March 1, 1920, in Springdale in Taylor County, to Levi Bailey Mixon and Nora Lee Sherouse Mixon.
Harold honorably served our country in the United States Air Force during WWII, Korea and Vietnam, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant in 1968. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of First Baptist Church of Perry, where he volunteered to cook for the prayer breakfasts over the years. After his retirement from the Air Force, he owned and operated The TV and Appliance Center here in Perry. He was a longtime member of the original “Taylor County Cookers” for many years, and was also involved with the local VFW, AMVets and American Legion.
Harold was preceded in death by: his wife, Lucile Lee Mixon; his parents, Levi Bailey and Nora Lee Mixon; and his brother, Donald Mixon.
He is survived by: his children, Leanne Karstedt, and Harold W. “Chuck” Mixon, Jr.; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 19, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Perry with Pastor Steven Ruff and Pastor Glenn Baker officiating. Interment services will follow immediately afterwards in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 18, at Burns Funeral Home of Perry. All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
