It’s no secret that the annual scallop season draws thousands of people to the Taylor County coast each summer. But how much do those people impact both the county’s natural resources, as well as its economy?
Although the environmental impact is still being considered, and will require additional years of study, preliminary results from the 2017 season show a $3.5 million to $5 million impact to local businesses thanks to the influx of visitors.
