A busted wheel is the suspected culprit that caused a train car to jump the tracks Tuesday night, chew through 800 crossties and bust the asphalt like a jackhammer at seven crossings.
Not only did the damage bring a halt to train service along the railway, but it also resulted in the closure of seven city streets, from Drew to Wilcox – effectively halting through-traffic from Highway 19 to downtown Perry along those streets. Access to Highway 19 remained open on Willow, Julia and Ash Streets.
