    Charles “Chuck” V. Edwards

    Posted on March 7, 2018

Charles “Chuck” V. Edwards, 64, died March 1, 2018, in Greenville at his home surrounded by his family. Chuck was born Aug. 14, 1953, in Foley, to Verner Willis Edwards and Ruby Aleene Collins Edwards.

Chuck was of the Christian faith and was a member of Perry Church of Christ. He was a powerhouse operator with Buckeye for 38 years, retiring in 2010. Then he and his wife, Greta, moved to Elijay, Ga., where they lived for six years before moving back to Greenville. He was also a disc jockey with WPRY in the 70’s.

In his spare time he was a beekeeper, made his own honey, maintained his hives and raised his own queens. Chuck enjoyed deer hunting and bass fishing, but in his later years the deer became off limits in his yard. He was a prankster and jokester and he will be remembered hollering out, “Go, Gators, Go Gators, Go, Go, Go!” for he was truly an avid Gator fan.

When asked, Chuck would preach the Gospel at his church or wherever invited. He taught Sunday School and was active in the churches he attended. Chuck was the best husband a woman could ask for, the best daddy a girl and boy could have and was the very best Paw Paw or Date Dampa a child could ever wanted.

Chuck was preceded in death by: his parents, Verner Willis and Ruby Aleene Edwards; and his grandson, aylor Ferguson.

He is survived by: his loving wife of 46 years, Greta Edwards; his children, Jennifer “Bear” Bennett, Wendi Brannen (Oby) and Chuckie Edwards (Lisa); his sister, Barbara Edwards; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his aunt, Muriel Bryan; his mother-in-law, Willadean Hicks; and his sister-in-law, Ginger Turnbough (Ted); as well as a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 5, at 2 p.m., at Burns Funeral Home of Perry. Interment services followed immediately afterwards in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family received friends from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, at Burns Funeral Home of Perry. All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
