Thomas Lamar “Tom” Carter, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, March 5, 2018 in Perry. Tom was born April 16, 1940, in Madison to Raymond Carter and Pearlie Mae Goodman Carter.
He honorably served our country in the United States Air Force for more than 20 years and served in the Korean War. After retiring from the Air Force, Tom worked in maintenance at Doctor’s Memorial Hospital for 20 plus years before his retirement. He was a member of Perry Masonic Lodge #123, Perry Shriners and Tallahassee Shrine Marzuq Temple. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing and hunting.
Tom was preceded in death by: his parents, Raymond Carter and Pearlie Mae Goodman Carter; his wife of 37 years, Nelda Roberts Carter; and his sister, Carol Roberts.
He is survived by: three daughters, Debbie Rowland, of Valdosta, Ga., Monica E. Mathis and Donna L. Coxwell, both of Perry; one son, Stephen D. Mathis of Live Oak; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, March 8, at 2 p.m. in Pisgah Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Burns Funeral Home of Perry. All arrangements are under the care of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
