John Wesley Walker, Sr., 77 of Anderson, S.C., passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 13, 2018.
He is survived by: his wife of 27 years, Annette Robinson Walker; his two sons, Carlton Edward Walker of Perry and John Wesley Walker, Jr. of Fort Gaines, Ga.; and his two daughters, Cindy (Lindy) Runyan of Fort Mill, S.C. and Angie (David) Frengel of Greenville, S.C. He was also the proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Leon Carlton Walker and Katie Sadler Walker; his two brothers, Toby Walker and Wayne Walker; and two sisters, Leota Gregory and Chanie Dotson.
John was born on Sept. 20, 1940, in Foley. He graduated from Taylor County High School and went on to have a distinguished 35-year career in law enforcement. He spent the majority of that time with the Florida Marine Patrol and after retiring from the FMP, he proudly served as Sheriff of Taylor County for two terms. Due to John’s extensive experience, he was appointed Lt. Colonel and was a primary leader in the merger of the Florida Marine Patrol and the Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #123, Perry Shrine Club, Marzuq Shrine Temple and member of Lake Martin Baptist Church in Dadeville, Ala.
During his retirement he enjoyed his family, hunting, traveling and spending time with his beloved poodle Phoebe.
Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church on Saturday, March 17 at 12 p.m. Interment followed at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family received friends starting at 11 a.m. prior to the service at First Baptist Church.
