Roadside litter pick-up cost is high

Local officials are looking for a way to combat the littering problem affecting the county’s roadways by utilizing those ordered by the court to perform community service. However, despite the “free” labor involved, implementing such a program will come at a high price.

Taylor County commissioners have repeatedly discussed developing such a program to clean up county-owned facilities and rights-of-way, but the issue of insurance and the cost involved with supervising community service workers has repeatedly shut down talks before a plan could be implemented.
