Buckeye’s net sales drop for 2nd quarter

Buckeye Technologies Inc. announced this week that second quarter net sales were down $17.1 million to $204.3 million, a drop of 8 percent compared to the same period last year.

Shipment volume was up 6 percent year over year, but product mix was unfavorable as the company shipped about 12,000 tons into the viscose staple fiber market during the quarter as a result of weak demand in some of its high-end markets, particularly from the European tire cord market.
