Gary David Gamble, 73, died May 9, 2018, in Perry. Gary was born Sept. 12, 1944, in Perry, to David Elbert Gamble and Genevieve McKinney Gamble.
Gary honorably served our country in the United States Army Reserves. He loved farming, horses and children. He formed a festival called Back to Basics, which was meant to teach youth and adults the old way of living off of the land. He was also involved with the Taylor County Horseman’s Association. He and his daughter began Back To Basics Youth Group teaching children to care for and ride horses.
He was a very active member of Perry Church of Christ, where he was the song leader for many years. He traveled all over the country working, and there was always at least one person there whose life he impacted in a positive way.
Gary was preceded in death by: his parents, David and Genevieve Gamble; and his sisters, Patricia Ann Gamble and Connie E. LaValle.
He is survived by: his wife of 51 years, Margie Gamble; his children, LeAnn Rainey (Tim) and Lance Gamble; two grandchildren, Garrett Rainey and Mark Anthony Lundy; his great-granddaughter, Aubrie Rainey; his sister, Martha French (Dean); as well as a host of nieces and nephews and others who loved him like family.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 13, at 3 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home of Perry with Minister Dan Chaney officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. on Sunday, May 13, at Burns Funeral Home of Perry. All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
