    James Hobson “J.H.” Homes Jr.

    James Hobson “J.H.” Holmes Jr., 92, died May 14, 2018, in Thomasville, Ga. JH was born July 28, 1925, in Perry, to James Hobson Holmes Sr. and Eunice Virginia Young Holmes.

    JH honorably served our country in the United States Army during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of First Baptist Church of Perry. JH retired from Florida Power in 1988 as a serviceman, after 38 years of employment. In his younger years, he enjoyed boating, water skiing and spending time with his family and friends.

    JH was preceded in death by: his parents, James Hobson Holmes Sr. and Eunice Virginia Holmes; and his brother, Thomas Lundy Holmes.

    He is survived by: his wife of 67 years, Gloria “Brownie” Holmes; his children, Jeanne Diane Owens and James Daryl Holmes; six grandchildren, Shane Owens (Jade), Janice James (Roy), Daniel Owens (Betsy), Daryl Holmes, Jr. (Christy), Kristina Brown (Matt) and David Holmes (Kaitlin); 12 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Hunter, Britton, Addison, J.P., Eli, Tucker, Weston, Autumn, Kylee, Cailyn and Cayden; and one great-great-granddaughter, Carter; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 17, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Perry with Pastor Ben Kimmell and Pastor Steven Ruff officiating. Interment services will follow immediately afterwards in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Thursday, May 17, at First Baptist Church of Perry. All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
