Ruth Bodiford Smiley

Our beloved mother, Ruth Bodiford Smiley, 86, passed away peacefully at home May 12, 2018. Ruth was born May 14, 1931, in Athena, to James Dennis Bodiford and Laduskey Venita Ezell Bodiford.

Ruth was a devoted wife and mother and a faithful servant to our Lord Jesus Christ. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Athena Baptist Church and New Home Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She enjoyed her family immensely and was our prayer warrior and spiritual leader. She was a devoted friend to many and greeted everyone with a smile and a warm hug.

Ruth was preceded in death by: her husband, Deril L. Smiley; her parents; and her brother, Jack Bodiford.

She is survived by: her daughters, Judy Smiley, Dara Cash, and Tori Slaughter; son-in-law, Randy Slaughter; and grandchildren, Lauren Beckner, David Beckner, Jimmy Cash, Freddy Cash, Reagan Slaughter and Rhett Slaughter.

A graveside service will be held today (Wednesday) at 10 a.m. at New Hope Cemetery with Pastor Rick Patrick officiating the celebration of her graduation to Heaven. All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
