    ‘Breaking In’ wastes an interesting concept with a slow, sloppy script

    Few things in life are more frightening than someone breaking into your home while you’re alone. That’s one of the reasons why home-invasion flicks are a constant staple of the horror and thriller genres. Some are quite over the top, as horror films are apt to be, such as “Strangers,” while others are more grounded in the terror and tension of the situation, including the superb “Panic Room.”

    The latest movie to ensure we double-check the locks on our doors is “Breaking In,” which manages to turn this popular trope on its head in a new and interesting way. Unfortunately, neither the director nor the screenwriter can figure out how to utilize their concept in any meaningful way, wasting several solid performances and turning a short film into something of a slog.
