Although the official start of the 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season is still a week away, local emergency management officials are keeping a close eye on a disturbance in the southern Caribbean — which forecasters are now giving an 90% of forming into a tropical system by early next week.
“We’re expecting wind gusts up to 35 mph. It will be a rain maker,” Taylor County Emergency Management Coordinator Kirsty Anderson said Thursday afternoon. “The ground is already saturated, and we are monitoring the rivers daily.”
