American Legion Auxiliary Post #291 in Steinhatchee, with the help of the Sons of the Legion and others in the Steinhatchee community, held a Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Thursday to remember and honor all of the veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. The Steinhatchee American Legion recently led an effort to purchase white crosses in memory of those who have served.

“Our goal was 100 crosses, and we have sold 192 so far and are still taking orders,” said Auxiliary President Karen Tidwell, adding that the crosses will be displayed three times each year (Memorial Day, July 4th and Veterans Day).

If you would like to purchase a cross ($25) in honor of a loved one who served (alive or deceased) call the Steinhatchee American Legion at 352- 498-8177.
