Mitchel Monroe Newman, 75, of Chiefland, died May 22, 2018. Monroe was born Oct. 29, 1942, to the late Elzie and Verdie Mae Newman in Dixie County.
Monroe lived in the Chiefland area since 1995, after moving from Lexington, Ky. He honorably served our country in the United States Air Force as Chief Master Sergeant and went on to work as a program manager for General Dynamics.
He is survived by: his wife, Joann Newman; his four daughters, Sammi Dee Selph, of Avon Park, Jerri Ann Shirey, of Avon Park, Tenni Lynn Bohlam, of Perry and Jessica Errin Libby, of Chiefland; his stepson, Jason Moore, of Fayetteville, Ga.; his oldest sister, Bobby Jean Gibbs, of Scottsville, Ky.; his sister, Wanda Jones, of Trenton; his sister, Gloria Fay Ciesynski, of Salem; his brother, Pete Nelson Newman of Bennetsville, S.C.; his sister, Sherry Renfroe of Leesburg, Ala.; and his brother, W.O. Newman, of Salem.
Monroe was preceded in death by: his father, Elzie Newman; his mother, Verdie Mae Newman; and his brothers, Ronnie Newman and Marvin Newman.
He was laid to rest on Friday, May 25 at the Long Pond Cemetery in Chiefland.
