Joan F. Olliff, 78, died peacefully June 8, 2018, at her home in Perry surrounded by her family. Joan was born Dec. 1, 1939, in Dimmitt, Texas, to Eddie McDonald and Edith Roberts McDonald.
Joan was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. She worked as a bus driver with Taylor County School District for many years. She also worked as a Taylor County dispatcher for the sheriff’s office for several years. In her spare time, Joan enjoyed traveling, reading, cooking, gardening and doing puzzles. She loved her children and adored her grandchildren. Above all things on this earth, she loved for her family to get together and pick and sing those good ole songs.
Joan was preceded in death by: her first husband, Johnny Bill Johnson; her parents, Eddie McDonald and Edith Roberts McDonald; her brother, Harley McDonald; and her sister, Kathleen McDonald.
She is survived by: her husband of 37 years, Julian Olliff; her children, Jason J. Johnson, Sr. (Charlotte), Eddie Johnson (Rhonda), Teresa Gipson (Billy) and Billy “B.J.” Johnson, Sr. (Deon); her brothers, Dwight McDonald (Brenda), Alvis McDonald (JoAnn) and Perry McDonald; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 11, at 11 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home of Perry with Bro. Tim McDonald and Bro. Billy Gipson officiating. Interment services followed immediately afterwards in Pisgah Cemetery. The family received friends from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, June 10, at Burns Funeral Home of Perry. All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
