Carol Jean Howell

Carol Jean Howell, 80, died July 13, 2018. Carol was born April 6, 1938, in Perry, to Olan Murphy and Evie (Hodges) Murphy.

Carol loved spending time with her family, cooking and gardening. She was an active and founding member of Community Church of Perry, where she led the choir in singing.

Carol was preceded in death by: her husband of 60 years, Pastor Franklin Dennis Howell; her son-in-law, Clay Callaway; her parents, Olan and Evie (Hodges) Murphy; and her brother, Marvin Murphy.

She is survived by: two children, Carol Denise (Howell) Callaway and Eric Howell and his wife, Vera; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, J. Fred Murphy and his wife, Imogene; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held Sunday, July 15, at 2 p.m., at Indian Springs Cemetery with Rev. Mason Callaway officiating. The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, at Burns Funeral Home of Perry. Additionally, the family received friends on Saturday, July 14, at Carol’s residence from 10-2 p.m. All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
