Edward “Red” Mitchell Walker Sr., 76, died July 19, 2018, in Orange Park.
Red was born April 1, 1942, in Mayo to Joseph L. Walker Sr. and Clora Mae Hewitt Walker.
Mr. Walker was a member of First Assembly of God of Mayo. Red worked with Croft’s Thriftway Grocery store as the produce manager retiring after 50-plus years. He was a past Lafayette County commissioner for 12 years. Red loved to fish and liked to hunt. He loved to laugh and make other people laugh, and he cherished time spent with his family and being a “Papa.”
Red was preceded in death by: his parents Joseph L. Walker Sr. and Clora Mae Walker; a granddaughter, Megan Walker Zipperer; a grandson, Herbert Luke Thompson; and sisters Gladys Dees, Edna Beard, Irene MacIntosh and Mary Frances Williams.
Mr. Walker is survived by: his wife of 57 years, Delores Leggett Walker; children, Vickie Delores Walker, Edward Mitchell Walker, Jr. (Monica); a brother Joe Walker, Jr. (Glenda), and sister Betty McCray (Lamar); and grandchildren, Nicole, John, Brittany, Tori, Lily, Colton, Ellie, Dillan, Brooke, Declan, Noah, Leah Mae, Sawyer, Kellan, Kezzie, Grace, Sutton, Wynter, Karson and Reese; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 22, at 3 p.m. at First Assembly of God of Mayo with the Rev. Kenny Sullivan and Daryl Fletcher officiating. Interment services will follow immediately afterward in Wayfare Cemetery. The family will receive friends from one hour prior to the service, from 2-3 pm., at the church.
