State Attorney declines to prosecute Cone case

    Posted on August 22, 2018

Under the conditions of a deferred prosecution agreement signed on Aug. 15, Jeffrey Siegmeister, State Attorney for the Third Judicial Circuit, has declined to pursue charges of grand theft and official misconduct against former longtime Taylor County probation officer Calvin Cone Jr.

Rather than moving forward with prosecution of the case, Siegmeister’s office opted to file a “No Information” document in exchange for Cone complying with the conditions spelled out in an attached agreement, which includes: payment of $1,800 to the Clerk of Court, State Attorney’s Office and state investigators, not seeking reappointment to his position as a probation officer, not seeking any future position that would require him to personally handle public funds, waiving his right to a speedy trial and waiving his right to a statute of limitations defense.
