    Commissioners back off tax increase

    In one of the most tumultuous budget cycles in recent memory, Taylor County Commissioners have reversed course once again this week, signaling they will not raise property taxes as previously discussed and instead will ask all departments and constitutional officers to cut their budgets by 2.5%.

    During a special meeting held Tuesday morning, all three commissioners — Thomas Demps, Jim Moody and Steve Spradley — who voted to raise the county’s proposed millage rate by almost 7% in August — indicated they were no longer in favor of raising taxes.
