    Posted on September 5, 2018

The Steinhatchee Garden Club opens its new program year Tuesday, Sept. 11, with a meeting at the Steinhatchee Community Center, starting at 9:30 a.m.

“At this first meeting – on the anniversary of 9/11 — we will honor our country,” Treasurer Sue Guilbeau said.

Incoming officers for the year include: Alexis Dorsi, president; Rita Moody, first vice president; Susan Curtis, second vice president; Martha Wright, recording secretary; Sue Guilbeau, treasurer; and Marla Carroll, corresponding secretary.

The group meets the second Tuesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. Coffee and “goodies” are served and the meeting begins at 10 a.m.

“We have an exciting year of programs planned, with presentations from Clay Olson on Master Gardening; Ken Jones on Satsuma oranges; Ann Livingston will help us make flower arrangements for the nursing home; Terry Zinn with the Florida Wildflower Federation; and Carolyn Sapp will teach us to ‘eat from the yard.’ There will also be activities such as field trips and our annual spaghetti dinner in January. We will be raising money to send school children to Camp Wekiva and SEEK, which we do each summer,” Guilbeau said.

“We are pleased that the efforts put forth by the club last year planting flowers and shrubs at the community center have paid off, with many beautiful plants coming along nicely. Watch for more work to be done at the center this year.”

New members are welcome. For more information, please contact the club president at (352) 562-2793.
