    James “Jimmy” Emory Mathis

    James “Jimmy” Emory Mathis, 74, passed away peacefully at his home Sept. 21, 2018, in Perry. Jimmy was born Dec. 4, 1943, in Perry to Elmer Ray Mathis and Mattie Louise Leggett Mathis.

    Jimmy worked in the woods with his father to help provide for his family and will be remembered as a very special brother to his family. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, hunting and eating with his family and friends.

    Jimmy was preceded in death by: his parents, Elmer and Louise Mathis; four brothers, Howard, Freddie, Dickey and Jerry Mathis; and one sister, Betty Crews.

    He is survived by: his son, Jimmy Ray Mathis and wife, Penny, of Perry; one brother, Buddy Mathis; four sisters, Ramona Ellison, Opal Kent, Linda Cannon and Cheryl Blue, all of Perry; two grandchildren, Christopher and Shonda; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who loved him very much.

    Graveside funeral services were held 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, 2018, in Woodlawn Cemetery with Bro. Cricket Watson officiating. All arrangements are under the care of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
