James “J.W.” Wyman Brown, 82, passed peacefully from this life on Oct. 6, 2018 at his home in Perry. JW was born Oct. 30, 1935, in Perry to William Gordon Brown and Johnny Brown Brown. He was a graduate of Taylor County High School where he played football. He was of the Baptist faith and was a longtime member of New Home Baptist Church.
JW worked as a boiler inspector with Foley Cellulose for 40 years before retiring. In his spare time he enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by; his parents, Gordon and Johnny Brown; his wife of 63 years, Sara, in 2017; a grandson, Chad Brown; a brother, JD Brown; and a sister, Mildred Hart.
He is survived by; two sons, Eddie Brown and wife, Liz, of Branford, and Tim Brown of Perry; two daughters, Cindy Stephens and husband, Kearney, and Robin Baker and husband, Ray, all of Perry; four sisters, Freda “Ben” Burford, Glenna Taylor, both of Perry, Billie Tedder, of San Antonio, Texas, and Anita Faye Davis of Tallahassee; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at New Home Baptist Church with Bro Jeff Stading officiating. Interment will follow in Indian Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
