TCSO no longer funding SROs

While the Taylor County School District’s complement of school resource officers (SROs) has increased from four last year to seven this year, the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) — which funded two officers for the district last year – is no longer funding any officers for the local school system due to budget cuts.

The additional SRO positions, as well as the TCSO budget as a whole, were major issues in the Taylor County Commission’s sometimes contentious budget cycle this past summer, as the board worked to finalize its budget for the current fiscal year, which began Oct. 1.
