The City of Perry downtown canopy/balcony project – more than five years in the planning and with some $200,000 already spent on engineering plans and legal advertising — is in jeopardy after the county failed to execute its part of an agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to take over a portion of Jefferson Street.
The $1.4 million project called for the installation of freestanding balconies and canopies in front of businesses along a one-block stretch of Jefferson Street, as well as “bumpouts” at the crosswalks at Main and Green Streets.
