It was an emotional scene in the third-grade classroom of Taylor County Elementary School teacher Meridith Upshaw Friday morning.
A few moments earlier, Superintendent Paul Dyal walked through the door bearing both a bouquet of flowers and the news that Upshaw had been chosen the District Teacher of the Year. With him were TCES Principal Shelly Strickland and a flock of her fellow teachers. Soon there wasn’t a dry eye to be found.
