    Short story contest winners recognized

    The winning authors from the Friends of the Taylor County Public Library’s seventh annual Short Story Contest were recognized during the organization’s meeting on Monday, June 24.

    Shown above are: (from l to r) Friends President James Gross; Justice Marie-Ann Horner (first place, youth category); Nicole Davis (honorable mention, youth); Macon Horner (second place, student category); Elizabeth Blue (honorable mention, youth); Alice Simmons (second place, adult); Dennis Jiang (second place, youth); Caleb Wilson (honorable mention, student); and author Susan Womble, who was the guest speaker. Winning authors not pictured include Molly Wilson (first place, student), Naomi Weed Sharp (first place, adult) and Shasta Williams (honorable mention, adult).

    Following the awards presentation, Womble spoke to aspiring writers in the audience about her own writing process and the steps she took to publish her first book, “Newt’s World: Beginnings,” which won a 2008 Gold Medal Florida Book Award.
