    John Cary Vereen

    John Cary Vereen was born at Vereen Memorial Hospital in Moultrie, Ga., on November 21, 1962, and passed away on February 10, 2019. Cary was preceded in death by his parents, Lauradine Baker Vereen and Eugene Michael Vereen, Jr.  He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Azalee Wight Vereen, children John (Rebekah),Virginia, Patrick, granddaughter Sarah Anne,  sisters Joan Vereen Wilson (Rich), Ellen Vereen Rumble (Theo), brother Michael Vereen (Jenni), and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins, all of whom he loved dearly.

    Cary attended Colquitt County Schools and graduated from P. K. Yonge High

    School in Gainesville, FL, in 1982. He attended Wiregrass Technical College in Valdosta, Ga., and the International Fabricare Institute in Rockville, Md. Cary operated Modern Cleaners in Camilla, Ga., since 1990. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Camilla.

    Cary had a kind heart and a gentle soul. He was truly one-of-a-kind. No matter how hard you looked, you could never find anyone quite like him. His lifelong love of animals was a testament to his generous and loving spirit. He spent many hours at Stitches Animal Shelter.  He will be missed by his beloved animals: dogs, Sally, Charlotte, Roscoe, Daisy and Russ, and cats, Curtis, Smokey, Maisy, Scat, Tabitha and Lotto.

    Visitation will be Tuesday evening, February 12, at the family home in Camilla, beginning at 5:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 13, at 10:00 a.m., Camilla United Methodist Church, with interment at Akridge Cemetery immediately following.

    Contributions in Cary’s memory may be made to Stitches Animal Shelter, 4380 Puppy Lane, Camilla, Ga.
