    Special election could cost $75,000

    Posted on February 15, 2019

The Taylor County Commission agreed last week to allocate $37,500 toward the upcoming special election for the Florida House District 7 seat, which is vacant after Halsey Beshears was named to a statewide office by Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Taylor County Supervisor of Elections Dana Southerland has estimated it will cost the county a total of $75,000 to run the primary and special elections set for April 8 and June 18 respectively. At the time of last week’s commission meeting, however, it was not certain whether both elections would be necessary, so the commission only approved half of the funding request.
