‘The Lego Movie 2’ is a quality sequel

    Posted on February 15, 2019

“The Lego Movie” was one of the surprise hits of 2014, and after two spin-off movies since then, we finally have a proper sequel, with the principal cast returning along with writers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who did hand off directing duties to Mike Mitchell (“Trolls”).

The original film has a wonderful twist near the end — one that I won’t spoil here — and I wondering how the writers would handle that moving forward. With the Unikitty out of the bag, could they manage a dual-layered story and bring the same level of heart the first one delivered?

Fortunately, the answer is yes. If you’re a fan of the first film, the sequel is definitely worth watching to see what happens next to Emmet (Chris Pratt), Lucy (Elizabeth Banks) and the rest of their plastic brethren.

The story picks up with our heroes living in the wreckage left behind by the infamous Taco Tuesday. When new invaders come to steal away the best master builders, it will be up to Emmet to save the day.

The sequel is once again filled with pop culture references and great comedic timing from the voice cast, while also progressing the storyline in a logical and heartfelt direction. As I said before, if you are a fan of “The Lego Movie,” you should definitely check out the sequel.

The film is rated PG for some rude humor.
