Directed by Rolando Emmerich,” better known for his global catastrophe movie such as “Independence Day,” “The Day After Tomorrow” and “2012,” “White House Down” seems almost restrained in comparison, but the scope is the only thing about “White House Down” that is restrained.
Those looking for an action-filled popcorn flick to kill two hours will probably find enough to keep you entertained, but that’s only if you turn off your brain for the duration. The story manages to be not only convoluted, but both hammy in its delivery and heavy-handed in its apparent demagoguery.
The movie is rated PG-13 for prolonged sequences of action and violence including intense gunfire and explosions, some language and a brief sexual image.
