An 11-year legal battle between the nation’s largest cigarette companies and a Taylor County resident came to a close last week when a settlement for an undisclosed amount was reached just prior to jury selection getting underway.
Roland King first filed an individual action against the nation’s biggest tobacco corporations (R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, Philip Morris USA, Inc. Lorillard Tobacco Company, Liggett Group, LLC and Vector Group LTD) on Dec. 12, 2007, for “strict liability, fraud by concealment, conspiracy to commit fraud by concealment and negligence.”
