After hearing impassioned pleas from both sides during a March 5 workshop, the Taylor County School Board has asked staff to prepare a proposed resolution that could enhance student safety by allowing certain vetted and trained school personnel to carry concealed weapons on campus.
Local school officials are cautiously moving forward by reviewing policies implemented by other school districts, while Florida lawmakers are in Tallahassee crafting new proposed “School Safety and Security” legislation (SB 7030) that could lead to the “Guardian Program” being a requirement instead of an option.
