Giant armadillos, massive mastodons, glittering gold rings and tattered battle flags were just a few of the treasures Taylor County Historical Society members encountered during an expedition exploring 12,000 years of Florida history Saturday.
Members dove deep into the Museum of Florida History’s collection to identify pieces that have direct ties to Taylor County – including an iron kettle that was used near Steinhatchee to boil sea water and collect salt during the Civil War.
