JUSTICE DELAYED: ‘No-show’ jurors postpone murder trial

    Posted on March 29, 2019

The murder trial of Cordell Washington (center), a former Taylor Correctional Institution (TCI) inmate charged with killing a fellow inmate in June 2015, has been delayed for a second time in seven months. Proceedings, which began Monday, never made it beyond jury selection, as 30 percent of the jury pool failed to report for duty.

A once-delayed murder trial has been postponed yet again this week due to some 60 unexcused jurors being “no-shows” in court on Monday.

The trial never made it beyond the jury selection phase, as some 30 percent of the jury pool failed to report, leading to a postponement for lack of an adequate jury pool – something that Circuit Judge Greg Parker said has only happened once before in his 10 years as a circuit judge.
