What began as a Saturday afternoon of friends hanging out and enjoying some food before heading out for dancing and drinks, escalated into two separate incidents involving guns — including a physical altercation that left one man dead and his longtime friend cleared by a grand jury in what appears to be a self-defense shooting.
After an in-depth review of an extensive 92-page death investigation report compiled by the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO), it appears a fatal cocktail of alcohol, testosterone and handguns culminated in the Jan. 20 early-morning shooting death of 34-year-old Christopher Strickland by his longtime friend, gym workout partner and co-worker Justin Becerra, 26.
