Taylor County’s 2019 Relay For Life opens at 5 p.m. today (Friday, April 12) at Big Bend Technical College (BBTC) with registration for survivor t-shirts.
Opening ceremonies will start at 6 p.m. with BBTC Director Jodi Tillman giving the welcome and Tim Brown, adult ambassador for Relay, delivering the opening prayer.
Taylor County’s JROTC Color Guard will present the colors, and Caroline Gray will sing the national anthem.
All cancer survivors and caregivers are invited to take part in the Survivor’s Lap at 6:15 p.m.
Teams will be set up around the main parking lot (located on Industrial Park Drive) offering a variety of concessions, games and activities.
Drawings will be held for a gift basket valued at more than $1,000, a Yeti Tundra cooler, Ruger 22 and a grill.
There will be pony rides, a bounce house, touch-a-truck exhibits and a “mini” car show featuring muscle cars, classic cars and motorcycles.
A live cake auction is slated for 7 p.m., and a silent auction will be held throughout the evening.
The luminaria ceremony will begin at 8:30 p.m., and prize drawings will be held at 9:30 p.m.
Closing ceremonies are set for 10 p.m.
