Immediately after seeing local voters record the best voter turnout numbers in the 10-county House District 7 race, Taylor County Supervisor of Elections Dana Southerland refused to bask in congratulations and instead wants to raise the bar.
“Historically, special elections are lucky to get a 10% turnout. I felt I was shooting somewhat high when early voting started and I saw the numbers slowly creeping up, so I changed my stance and said I would hope for 20%,” Southerland said following the election.
