FDOT wants to re-route SR 51

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) approached the Taylor County Commission this week about potentially rerouting a portion of State Road 51 (SR 51) in Steinhatchee to avoid the area near Sea Hag Marina due to safety concerns over the amount of pedestrian traffic crossing the roadway there.

FDOT officials plan to hold a public meeting on the proposal at the Steinhatchee Community Center on May 14, but the county commission refused to officially endorse the plan during their Tuesday morning meeting, stating they needed both more information and more time.
