City Manager Taylor Brown turned to city council members for additional background information about the proposed Cypress Mill development after meeting with backers who want to build all related infrastructure themselves and then turn it over to the city for perpetual maintenance.
“We (Brown and Public Works Director Chester McAfee) met with the developer a few months back about the Cypress Mill proposal. They were in the midst of the planned development when the housing market imploded, and it has been sitting on the shelf ever since. Things have rebounded now and Mr. (Bob) Sheffield (the developer) is thinking he might like to move forward with the proposal now. He wanted to meet with me as the new city manager, and one of his issues was about infrastructure improvements. They would build and pay for the infrastructure, and then turn them over to the city. He expressed that prior city manager (Bob Brown) was adamant that would not happen. I’m coming to you for additional information and background because I’m trying to be diligent and tread cautiously,” Brown said.
