Quick action by the driver of a semi-truck saved the life of a Perry man who was involved in a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon at the intersection of U.S. Highway 19 North and Wright Road.

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) officials said the semi-truck driver “jumped out of his vehicle and pulled the other driver from his pick-up truck” before he became trapped by fire. The investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing, although a mechanical malfunction with the pick-up truck is a possible factor.

“We have a report that the truck may have stalled as it entered the intersection,” FHP officials said. The pick-up truck driver was airlifted to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in “stable, but critical condition.”
