Watch for detours

The driver of this Nissan Sentra (above) was cited for violation of right-of-way following a Thursday morning crash at the intersection of Center and Drew streets.

The Sentra was turning left onto Center St. from Drew St. when it pulled into the path of a Dodge Durango that crashed into the driver’s side door of the car. There were no injuries. The detour around the Jefferson Street railroad crossing near Ellis Street has caused an increased volume of traffic on Center Street over the past two weeks.

“We urge drivers to be more cautious and allow more time for your normal daily commute,” Perry Police Department Capt. Gene Franklin said, adding that the Jefferson Street railroad crossing is expected to re-open on Saturday, May 18.
